7 Steps to a Positive Relationship with your PhD Supervisor, by Prof. James Arvanitakis¹⁾

Set expectations early on. (How often you'd like to meet, the best way to communicate, and certain timelines that you'll set)
Set regular meetings and set them going forward to help you plan ahead.
About two days before the meeting, send the agenda, some writing, some thoughts, and a bit of progress report to your supervisor.
Never cancel a meeting unless it's really urgent.
Never take negative feedback personally.
Always send a summary of the meeting after you meet(basically summarize the key points). It helps set the agenda for my next meeting.
Don't be scared of asking questions that you are not sure about.
